About Saudi Arabian Airlines

The airline of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also one of the oldest air service providers in the Middle East region and is the national flag carrier of the largest nation in the region. Saudi Arabian Airlines has its roots in the mid-1940’s when the then King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud was gifted a Douglas DC-3 by the president of the USA. It was the beginning of civil aviation in Saudi Arabia and the advent of Saudia Airlines; managed by TWA it continued to progress and grow since that time. Initially, it ran routes of cargo and passengers between Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran. Currently it is headquartered in King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah, with hubs in King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. It is currently the third largest airline in terms of revenue after Emirates and Qatar Airways. It is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization and joined the Sky Team Airline Alliance in 2012.

 

Fleet and Destinations

Currently,the aircraft maintenance is taken care by the government-owned Saudi Aerospace Engineering Industries organization.

Saudi Airlines offers chartered flights within and outside of Saudi Arabia. Being most active during the Ramadan and Hajj season it has a dedicated fleet of various small aircraft for this purpose.

The airline has its own in-flight magazine called Ahlan Wasahlan (meaning welcome). Being the national airlines of one of the most influential Islamic countries no pork or alcoholic beverages are served. Some of the newer aircraft offer cellular and Wi-Fi services and a dedicated prayer area for the passengers.
